The first electric vehicle was invented in 1834 by Thomas Davenport of Vermont. He also incidentally was the inventor of the DC electric motor. Rechargeable batteries didn’t come around until many years later (1859), but he was able to drive his EV on a short track. The decline of EV’s started in the early 20th century as road infrastructures expanded and gasoline powered vehicles were made affordable by Henry Fords mass production lines, they could also travel faster for greater distances.

California’s Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) mandate gets hijacked by the oil industry. GM sells out to Exxon. In 1998 the EV1 plant gets dismantled, advanced battery patent gets sold to Exxon never to be seen again. All EV1’s are recalled and crushed. The fact of the matter is GM has always be beholden to the oil industry and from the start, the EV1 could never be purchased only leased. The plan was to never allow these cars on the market. How’d that work out GM! Now the Koch brothers have shifted their sights on the solar industry, unleashing their money machine, lobbying against solar power rebates. Their refineries and pipelines are causing terrible harm to us, in the end they’re sure to lose their billions just like the fracking disaster in North Dakota. They should invest in alternative energy and start transferring the petroleum jobs, …or be forced into submission by changing sentiment.
