Services
American Classic Conversions, LLC is a single shop in the Twin Cities area. ACC
provides engineering, installation and servicing for electric conversion of standard internal
combustion automobiles. The company designs the conversion with the selection of
electric drive motors, controllers and battery packs, including an upgrade to CAN bus
communications.
ACC will convert the standard engine to the electric drive train. Any necessary body
work, or paint work will be completed on site. We feel
that educating and informing the customer is important.
The company will provide full documentation of the
design, components and servicing recommendations.
ACC provides all the components of the conversion.
The components used in the conversion are sourced as
much as possible from local manufacturers or American
manufacturers. ACC will provide battery pack servicing
for each conversion on a regular schedule. We give
the customer the choice of taking ownership of the
components removed from the car during the
conversion or selling the original parts to bring down the cost. We will work with local
recyclers to reuse, re-purpose or recycle as many of the components as possible.
Even the Johnson brothers did their part to conserve hot water :)

Our process starts with the customer contacting us with an idea of
their perfect car. We then locate a car that’s available for
purchase unless they already own it. Before any investment is
made we’ll evaluate the expense of electric motor and battery
pack options, complete with CAD drawings showing the
conversion layout. After the desired configuration is determined,
we’ll then do all the conversion and operating cost calculations.
One of the beauties of an electric car is that the calculations can
be quite accurate simply based on vehicle weight, wind coefficient
and the cost of your residential electricity.
While trying to locate “your” car, keep in mind we have body shop
capabilities and can significantly reduce the cost by restoring a
classic rather than purchasing a very expense completed
restoration.
When engine removal, frame preservation and body work is
finished, the conversion starts by first removing the gas tank and
fill nozzle, to be replaced with the charge port. There is no more
additional or hidden cost, what is quoted is the end cost.
