Blog - Our Thoughts
Apr. 4, 2016 - Our EVSE Juicebox is up and running.  For $615.00 this J1772 unit will provide 40A of level II charging and notify you, by email or text, when the charge is complete or interrupted for any reason. It can also export all of it’s activities in CSV format.  If you’re in the neighborhood stop in and top off your battery pack and coffee mug.  http://www.plugshare.com/#   Nov. 27, 2015 - Video showing Norway’s commitment to alternative energy.  It would be nice if we adopted some of their strategies; free charging, express lane privileges and no sales or registration tax. Somehow I think JP Morgan would find a way to derail the whole concept just as they did by pulling funding on Nikola Tesla because he was getting to close to free wire-less RF power with his Wardenclyffe Tower. Nov. 21, 2015 - IoT (Internet of Things) protocol works with this level 2 EVSE.  The device; your EVSE.  The controller; your smart phone via the app that communicates with #ohmconnect During peak-electricity times the app notifies you with the option to turn off the charger allowing you to receive cash credit for complying. JuiceBox  $599.00 Nov. 20, 2015 - Taking a very close look at the LCM-150 liquid cooled AC motor. Partnered with Ramco Electric Motors out of Greenville, OH, AC Propulsion designed the 200kW motor, which, only weights 110 lbs.  Nicely written abstract of the copper cast efficiency results.  Unfortunately the production looks to be out-sourced to China.  Nov. 18, 2015 - Tesla reportedly received reservations for $800 million worth of Powerwalls and Powerpacks, about what it makes in almost three months selling cars.  https://youtu.be/yKORsrlN-2k  Nov. 17, 2015 - Idaho National Labrotory released a report compiling 6 million charging events over a three year period monitoring the Chevy Volt & Nissan Leaf.  Quick fact sheet. Take a look at the Evatran, Inc. 3.3kW Plugless Charger.  Listed at $1,260 it seems very reasonable.  I use the Samsung wireless charger for my Galaxy 6 and I love not having to plug it in. Nov. 16, 2015 - EV sales chart for Oct. 2015 shows a trend that’s in decline for many of the models with exception of the Tesla Model S & Chevy Spark (VW e-Golf & Kia Soul EV are new models).  The Nissan Leaf units sold are down considerably at -1,351 YoY, although, it’s still 2nd behind Tesla Model S in “all electric” market share. These declines are likely attributed to the price of crude oil trending down this year. [source]  Nov. 15, 2015 - FYI, the PlugShare app is now available in Google Play Store.  This app will lead you to the nearest charger. Nov. 12, 2015 - This week Tennant Co. started the installation on their new electric vehicle charging stations. Nice. Nov. 11, 2015 -  Crime doesn’t pay; our neighborhood thief has been arrested and convicted for stealing our laptops.   On a nicer note, a beautiful wedding, two beautiful grandchildren, wonderful kids and three years later…, life is good. Added to our shop is an amazing 3D printer (Leapfrog Creatr), it’s going to be used for enclosures, insulators, bushings and prototype testing.  As materials evolve I can see this machine printing alloys in the not to distant future. I do have to admit defeat, though. Back in the Summer of 2012 I stated that I would drive our Corvair from Minneapolis-to- Fertile, MN on one charge before the end of 2015… I’ve got 6 weeks to get there…., not gonna happen, the total distance is 258 miles. “Lyle, Wayne and Keith…, can I get a 12 month waiver?”   Archived blogs: August 5th 2012 - We have been quiet for a while as we have worked on the selection of electric drives and        cabling. March 24th 2013 - Having selected the new AC75 electric motor, development work is on-going regarding    the CAN bus interface to the AC motor controller and 3kW on-board charger. March 29th 2013 - It’s been decided that we will be adding “wireless connection” to our development work.    The likely choice of protocol will be Long Term Evolution or LTE as it’s a more reliable mobile communications connection. April 15th 2013 - Sweden sets a goal to be the first “oil free” country.  Gotta love their spirit!  April 19th 2013 - American Chemical Society touts Lithium-Ion longevity.  20 years if managed correctly. April 24th 2013 - Speculators are back, oil futures retesting trendline support, which is now overhead      resistance, as of 12:15 CST.  If pricing breaks out over $91.50 per/bbl we’re likely headed back to test    the $100.00 per/bbl level.  The speculators are mainly hedge funds and primary banks that do not    take delivery on the oil contracts but rather, try and scalp with short term trades using Federal    Reserve low interest money.  This near zero interest money is also rotating in and out of most all    of our commodities so you can blame the Federal Reserve policy for our soaring grocery prices. May 5th 2013 - Quite interesting news coming out of the London Imperial College Composite Engineering      Group;  Under development is a composite material that can both, hold a mechanical load and store              electrical energy.  Their focus is on using the composite material as a supercapacitor that can provide high     bursts of energy over a short period of time.  Imagine your fenders or hood being made out of a layer of     active carbon fiber electrode, a layer of a separator, a layer of electrolyte and another layer of electrode     to be electrically connected with your battery pack for a significant boost in power, efficiency and increased     pack life cycles. May 6th 2013 - On a more troublesome note...  Negative corporate externalities continue to affect all of us!     Apple, Inc. is called out on dodging taxes with their stock buy back scheme.  “Apple meet Exxon,  Exxon    meet Apple.   Welcome to the corporate cheaters country club!”   Apple, black listed!  If you need an iPhone    buy a used one. May 13th 2013 - Minnesota soon to be the 17th State with a solar energy mandate.  It’s a watered down bill but     we’ll take what we can get.  The House version of the bill requires a 4% increase in solar energy by 2025.     The new mandate should bolster the two solar panel manufactures in Minnesota; Silicon Energy and     TenK Solar.  Exempt from the mandate are US Steel and Cliff Natural Resources mining operations on the     iron range.  Also exempt are all the rural electric co-ops and paper mills.  The bill has gone back to committee     for a rewrite, I’ll keep you posted.   Omnibus Energy Bill No. HF956 May 15th 2013 - Tesla (TSLA) investors react to earnings report with a parabolic blow-out.  Watch out trying     to take a short position here.   They beat the estimates by $0.08 per share and the Model S received  an     outstanding review from Consumer Reports, if fact it was the best review CR has ever given an     automobile!     Also Wells Fargo and US Bank are financing the down payment by covering the $7,500. rebate with a crafty     lease program.   News over-rides technicals so if you think this stock is going to pull back, be careful and     wait for further decrease in volume.  After hours trades have it back to $92.     May 17th 2013 - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers open their tour last night in Evansville, IN with a great setlist.     Tour schedule here.   Follow each setlist here. July 15th, 2013 – I hope everyone is having a great start to their summer!  Evans Electric nears completion of an     AWD electric vehicle using their patented 150kW axial AC induction wheel motors.  Multiplied by 4, that's an     astounding 600kW or 804 hp.  The unveiling will be this week at MotorEx in Sydney, Australia.     I'm not entirely convinced the wheel motors can withstand the punishing vibration between the suspension     system and the road, can't think of any harsher environment for the poles of an AC motor.  Regardless     of the end results,  Evans Electric will surely advance the development of AC motors and for that my hats off to     them!
Who's the person that contributed more to modern electronics?
Thomas Edison
